Neonatal Ventilator BABYLOG VN600 Draeger

The Dräger Babylog VN600 ventilator, capable of both volume and pressure ventilation, is suitable for long-term mechanical ventilation in NICUs, for neonates and pediatric patients. It features the new award-winning user interface software (iF DESIGN AWARD 2020), the Dräger UI, which stands out for its ease of use, safe and fast operation, and intelligent display of information on the Evita VN600 screen.

The ventilator consists of:

• A main ventilation unit

• A peripheral, colored 15.6-inch touchscreen display with award-winning operating software, available in the Greek language.

• An integrated wheeled base with brakes, as well as a support stand for an active humidifier, a removable arm for patient tubing suspension, and a rail system for quick attachment of various devices.

It performs the following conventional neonatal ventilation modes:

• Pressure-controlled mandatory ventilation (PC-CMV)

• Pressure-controlled assisted ventilation (PC-AC)

• Synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation (PC-SIMV)

• Synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation with pressure support (PC-SIMV/PS)

• Spontaneous breathing with continuous positive airway pressure (SPN-CPAP)

• Pressure support ventilation (SPN-CPAP/PS)

• Apnea ventilation: automatic switch to mandatory volume-controlled ventilation in case of apnea. It also offers an automatic return from apnea ventilation to the previous ventilation mode when adequate spontaneous breathing is restored. Applied in PC-SIMV, SPN-CPAP/PS, and SPN-CPAP/VS modes.

Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is supported via nasal SPN-CPAP and nasal PC-CMV through nasal prongs or masks for neonates, with an additional ANTI-AIR-SHOWER function. Specifically, in case of mask or nasal prong disconnection, the Babylog® VN600 detects the disconnection and automatically reduces the flow until reconnection. This function minimizes the risk of patient infection from the environment or healthcare personnel.

Advanced ventilation modes:

• Volume Guarantee (VG): A special ventilation mode applied in pressure-controlled ventilation modes. In addition to pressure control, the ventilator guarantees the delivered tidal volume per minute, protecting the lungs from pulmonary volutrauma. Applied in PC-CMV (VG), PC-AC (VG), PC-SIMV (VG) modes.

• CPAP/VS (Volume Support): Spontaneous ventilation with continuous positive airway pressure with or without volume support.

• PC-MMM (Mandatory Minute Ventilation): Pressure-controlled ventilation mode ensuring a minimum minute volume. MMM functions similarly to SIMV, but mandatory breaths are given only if the patient’s spontaneous breathing is insufficient. If spontaneous breathing increases, fewer mandatory breaths are delivered.

• High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFO): Powerful high-frequency ventilation with quiet operation (also suitable for Neonatal Intensive Care Units). Transition to HFO mode is seamless without special consumables or circuit changes.

• HFO-Sigh: During regular HFO, a user-set number of sighs (HRsigh) can be performed. Sighs help open or keep open vulnerable lung areas, improving ventilation strategy.

• HFO with Volume Guarantee: The Babylog VN600 automatically calculates and adjusts the amplitude (ΔP) needed to achieve the targeted tidal volume (VThf) during high-frequency oscillation ventilation with volume guarantee (VG HFO).

Additional functions:

• Oxygen therapy (O2 Therapy)

• Bronchoaspiration function (O2 enrichment)

Settings available for:

• Inspiratory time: 0.1 to 3 seconds

• Tidal volume (Vt): 2 ml to 300 ml

• Inspiratory flow: up to 30 L/min

• Oxygen concentration: 21% to 100% volume

• Inspiratory pressure: 1 to 80 mbar (cmH2O)

• PEEP: 0 to 35 mbar (cmH2O)

• Pressure support: up to 80 mbar (cmH2O)

• Respiratory rate: up to 150 breaths per minute
