The solution is used for staining blood and bone marrow smears, paraffin sections and clinical cytological specimens.
It includes a mixture of pigments, which work as follows:
Methylene blue: stains the acidic components of the cell blue
Blue (azuro): dyes the basic cellular components red and purple
Eosin (eosin): stains the alkaline components of the cell orange-red. This staining is characterized as panoptic, because it stains all cellular components.
